For you chocolaholics out there, there’s good news.
According to a recent article in TIME, a regular consumption of dark chocolate will help reduce the risk of stroke and possibly reduce the risk of death after suffering a stroke. Dark chocolate contains an antioxidant called falvanoids that are key in stroke prevention, according to an upcoming presentation to the American Academy of Neurology. One study suggested that individuals who ate an average of 50 grams of chocolate per week were 46% less likely to die after suffering a stroke while another stated that individuals who regularly ate chocolate were 22% less likely to suffer a stroke than those who did not.
You know how chocolate can save you. How will it save the rest of the world? By eating fair trade chocolate.
HHR partner Divine Chocolate works with cocoa farmer co-ops to provide fair trade chocolate prices for farmers. This helps poor farmers in rural areas from being cheated out of their crops’ true value and see a steady rise in income year after year. This money is reinvested back into the communities to build things like schools, clean drinking water and mobile medical facilities. Because of the Divine Chocolate brand’s dedication to fair trade practices, many people are having a chance at a better way of life than they normally would.
So indulge in that guilty pleasure. Next time you’re taking a bite out of the next bar of chocolate, just tell yourself you’re reducing your health risks…and saving the planet…one bite at a time.
