Green Biz Idea: Biking to Work
[tweetmeme]
Still looking for a way for your company to reduce that carbon footprint and improve sustainability? How about achieving that AND improving wellness for your workers?
How about an alternative commute option: a bicycle.
I recognize that this isn’t always a feasible option, especially in locations where most employees are having to do at least an hour one-way commute by car. However, for a company with a more centrally located workforce, this would be a great option for becoming more of a green company. Less people driving, less emissions you share responsibility for. It would also prove to be a great wellness opportunity for your workers, giving them a chance to increase their activity before and after work.
How will you get everyone on board?
Inc. Magazine does a great story here about how to encourage your employees to bike to work. One way we suggest: give employees an incentive to participate. If you have a points-based rewards system, allot them points for every week they bike instead of drive. That way, not only is there the health benefit but there will ultimately be a tangible reward in their future. Options don’t have to just be points. Some rewards could be green or other socially responsible products to take your sustainability efforts up a notch.
Bike month is this May. Do you plan on celebrating it at your company?
